Lives of the Saints

Two more Elder Scrolls characters introduced today: Shizzal the Outlander and Drai the Ashlander. You might remember this pair from the introduction for “Of Fire Ants and Hooms“. This new series, which I’m titling “Lives of the Saints” for reasons of my own, gives more background into how these two characters met and why they became so important to each other over the course of their adventures.

The ordering of the scenes in this series proved problematic, as they were interwoven with roleplay plots from the Elder Scrolls Online that spanned a few years. Some of the details of those plots are now lost to time, and so I’ve condensed those scenes down to be more relevant to Shizzal and Drai’s storyline.

War Front

Finally I turn to getting some of my old fan fictions from Elder Scrolls posted up on the blog here. This introduces a new (but old) character of mine, Azzir the Ordinator.

Though his concept originally comes from the game Morrowind, this version of him is set in Elder Scrolls Online. Though I’m not fond of what ESO did to Tamriel’s lore, I tried to remain faithful to its setting with this piece. The war referenced here is the Three Banners War in which Dunmer and Nords served together against the Altmeri Dominion.

The shrill whinny rent the pre-dawn air, like a knife cutting through a fresh pat of scuttle.

Aizar lay face-up in his cot, considering the tent walls slowly growing lighter with the approaching day, and the icicles forming along the center pole, courtesy of his breath in the frosty morning. All around him came the soft snores and wheezes from the others housed in the healer’s tent, even the most restless among them having finally found sleep at this hour. All was quiet.

“…Nothing in My Life Worth Honoring…”

This was originally a project for a class that I cleaned up a little more to post here. It depicts Vivec, a god-king from the Elder Scrolls universe, talking (singing) to Shizzal, an original character of mine who I haven’t yet introduced to my blog here.

The audio is from the song “Through Heaven’s Eyes”, which comes from the Dreamworks movie “Prince of Egypt”. Though the context and some of the lyrics (“rescued Tziporah from Egypt!”) are obviously not fitting with the Elder Scrolls universe, the tone and voices I thought fit well with the characters and the relationship that Shizzal, and perhaps many of Vivec’s priests and Buoyant Armigers, have with Him.

Ondolemar

Don’t mess with the elf with the magic gun.

This came out of a roleplay session, in which Ondolemar, a friend’s blood elf priest character, on the Cenarion Circle server of World of Warcaft, whipped out a magic gun to shoot his enemies with, rather than rely on something more mundane like a smite of the Light or whack to the head. Roth Roryn Cliffs

I knew I wanted to try my hand at painting red sandstone cliffs, and looked around the internet for some references. There were a few shots of sandstone cliffs thrown into orange and purple relief due to the photos being taken somewhere around sunset (or perhaps sunrise) that inspired the colors of this image.

In Tamriel Rebuilt, Roth Roryn is a landscape of orange cliffs. It borders the Deshaan Plains to the south, which in Tamriel Rebuilt, are actual plains as the old name dictates instead of marshlands as they are seen in Elder Scrolls Online. The purple, gray, and green coloring of the Deshaan plains also comes from concept art of Tamriel Rebuilt, serving as the main color palette for this zone.

Over the weekend I was part of a streamed discussion for Tamriel Rebuilt, a game mod for the game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The streaming session was put together and hosted by Zaric Zhakaron. I’m Kevaar, a Lead Developer of the mod who specializes in quest development and lore.
