The Crystals of Lorrd

Kellaro felt like jumping up and down. But jumping up and down still hurt even after a month’s recovery, so he kind of just bounced in place, his heels not leaving the ground and only his good knee bending. “So you’ve got an assignment on Lorrd, and you’re taking me with you?” he asked Brant excitedly.

“Yeah. It’s not much, just a chance to stretch your leg — er — legs. We’re going to meet with the miners guild there and scare them into telling us why they’ve been blocking shipments of Lorrdian lightsaber crystals. So you just gotta stand there and act scary.”

“What, like the Honor Guard?”

“Er…”

“That I can do!”

“Hold still!” Brant growled, catching Kellaro by the collar and hauling him back. A rebuke was rising in his throat, but reminding himself how fatalistic Kellaro had been just a couple weeks ago, he swallowed it down and put on a nicer face. “Yeah. Like… like the Honor Guard. I want you to give it your best Sithy impression. Really intimidate them.”

Kellaro bobbed his head, like the bounce in his feet had moved up into his neck. Brant released him along with a sigh, reminding himself that this was for Kellaro’s sake, not his. Technically threatening a miners guild didn’t even need the Lord Commander there, but if it made Kellaro feel useful while he was recovering, Brant would humor him a little…
